Shortly after orders began to be placed, Valve said that there were issues with checkout and that it was working to fix them. It stated that “we believe we’ve tracked down the issues causing instability in the cart and checkout on Steam” at 3:11 PM ET, or almost two hours later.
The problems could remind people of the July 2021 preorder period for the first Steam Deck, which resulted in Steam being taken down right away. Demand is probably strong this time around because the limited-edition transparent Steam Deck (which has been going in and out of stock) looks like a very excellent upgrade. However, I have to believe that a lot of people are vying for the Steam Deck OLED.
