India launches a solar mission

India launches a solar mission following a successful moon landing

India has its eyes set on the sun following last week’s successful moon landing. The Indian spacecraft Aditya-L1 departed this morning to investigate the sun.

Over the next four months, the Aditya-L1, which is called after the Hindi word for “sun,” will travel to a distance of roughly 1.5 million kilometers from Earth. Only a small portion of the sun’s overall distance, which is another 150 million kilometers.

India’s first expedition to study the sun is underway. In order to comprehend how the sun’s activity and solar winds affect Earth, an unmanned spacecraft will monitor them.

India made history on August 23 by becoming the fourth nation to set foot on the moon. At the south pole of the moon, where no other spacecraft had ever touched down, Chandrayaan-3 made its landing.

India is putting its imprint on space travel with the successful monthly landing and the launch of the new space mission, and it is attempting to compete with the space heavyweights China, Russia, and the United States. Several craft were successfully landed on the moon in the past.
