Intel Stock Falls After Dismal Results

Friday saw a 6.4% decline in Intel stock after the company released disappointing quarterly and annual statistics. Both analysts and investors were surprised by the chipmaker’s weak quarterly results, which included a 32% year-over-year revenue reduction and a net loss of $664 million for the fourth quarter of 2022.

With the firm predicting an adjusted net loss of 15 cents per share for the upcoming quarter, Intel’s problems, which include an abundance of chips and falling demand for factories pressuring its margin, are unlikely to get any better anytime soon.

Hans Mosesmann, an analyst at Rosenblatt, said in a note on Thursday night that the dynamic digestion of PC inventory and macro/China/enterprise contributed to an over 20% quarterly sales decrease. Rosenblatt reduced its price target for Intel from $20 to $17 while keeping its sell rating.

It will be a big test for Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, who assumed the position in 2021 after 54 years in the chip industry. Both the inventory and manufacturing concerns have been exacerbated by outside factors, according to Gelsinger, who said that a declining PC market has put pressure on Intel’s profitability and forced merchants to “adjust” their stockpiles.

Although we are aware that this dynamic will change, the CEO cautioned analysts that it was difficult to determine when. The stock of Intel has fallen more than 46% since its 52-week high.
